What is the library of your dreams like?

28.10.2010

The Central Library is a library of the future. You can use it like any traditional library to borrow books, read magazines and simply enjoy the library atmosphere.

City residents need free and open spaces for all kinds of activities in their everyday lives. People of all ages want to organise events, perform, record their own music, book premises for meetings and so on. The Central Library can provide the facilities for all this.

In the library of the future, the digital world seamlessly integrates with the library space. IT technology reveals new and engaging approaches to enjoying literary culture. Take a trip back in time and visit the famous Impivaara as featured in our national treasure, Aleksis Kivi’s Seven Brothers.  Or maybe you would fancy a stop at Pippi Longstocking’s Villa Villekulla to shake hands with Mr. Nilsson.

On this website, we can grow the tree of our dreams together. What will your choice be, an oak leaf or maybe a beautiful maple leaf? Take part in growing the magnificent tree which will reveal to us today what the library we really want would be like.

Join in – we would like to see everyone’s opinions included. Our goal is to open the doors to the Central Library on Töölönlahti Bay in 2017, which marks the 100th anniversary of Finnish independence.

Tree of dreams – add your wish and do your part.
