Oodi’s 1-year anniversary celebrated on the eve of Independence Day

Helsinki Central Library Oodi will celebrate its 1-year anniversary on Thursday 5 December. All of Oodi’s operators, i.e. Helsinki City Library, EU@Oodi, Brygga, Helsinki City Information, Fazer Food & Co, Kino Regina and Playground Loru, will have a programme of activities and events during the anniversary day. Various events will be held from morning to evening – come and visit!

Programme for Oodi’s 1-year anniversary

9am–6pm Helsinki quiz
At the Helsinki City Information point, you can come and test your knowledge on Helsinki and claim a small present that will allow you to be seen in the darkening nights of Helsinki!

11am–5.30pm Reading inspired by Oodi’s art rugs
On the hour, the people of Oodi will read aloud Finnish literature that inspired the art rugs.

11.30am–2pm & 4–6.30pm Loru’s hat workshop
At the children’s event space on the third floor of Oodi, party hats will be made under the guidance of playground Loru.

12 noon–3pm Non-stop drawing workshop: Helsinki before, now and in the future
In the drawing workshop, inspiration will be drawn from old photographs of Helsinki. Come to the workshop and learn about what Helsinki looked like in the olden times, what the places look like today and what they could be like in the future. At the end of the workshop, the drawings can be left on display in the Helsinkimme muuttuu ja säilyy exhibition. If you are under school age, come with a parent.

12 noon–6pm The EU serves glogg
Glogg will be served for the 1,000 first visitors. The glogg will be served in a mug that you can take with you if you like.

4pm The Helmet quartet
The Helmet quartet will perform its musical greeting to Oodi.

4–6pm 1-year anniversary textile printing workshop
Print your own t-shirt or tote bag with Oodi’s 1-year anniversary print. Bring your own clean and heat-resistant fabric.
Urban workshop (2nd floor)

4.30–4.45pm Miiko Toiviainen: Oodi Oodille
The Young Poetry Reader of the Year Miiko Toiviainen will read Henriikka Tavi’s celebration poem for Oodi.

4.45–5pm Sibelius Academy: Piano music

5pm Song and rhyme session
Playground Loru will hold a song and rhyme session on the balcony of Oodi’s children’s section.

5–5.30pm Hönkä accordion band
Consisting of two-row accordion players, Hönkä will perform bellows music from around the northern hemisphere.

5.30–6pm Kera & guests
Folk and pop music.

6.30–7pm Kassandrakuoro & guests
The multicultural Kassandrakuoro choir will perform music with a strong presence in contemporary Finland and the whole world pulsing within it.

6.30–7.30pm Wildberries Choir
The programme will include Finnish classics from Chydenius to Sibelius.

7pm Sing-along: Mamma Mia!
At KAVI’s sing-along screenings, the song lyrics are projected onto the screen to make it easy and fun to sing along! Mamma Mia! (2008) is a warm musical film in which a bride invites three men to her wedding to find out which one of them is her real father. The characters of the film perform ABBA’s greatest hits from Dancing Queen to Waterloo.

9.15pm Sing-along: Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again
At KAVI’s sing-along screenings, the song lyrics are projected onto the screen to make it easy and fun to sing along! In the sequel of the much-loved ABBA musical Mamma Mia! (2008), the trio of men from the first film arrive at the opening of a hotel restored by Sophie, the daughter of their sweetheart from decades ago, to reminisce about the wild youth of her mother.

8am–10pm Fazer Food & Co. Oodi
Fazer’s cafés in Oodi will be serving anniversary treats.

• Oodi’s 1-year anniversary pastry (white chocolate and blueberry) and coffee €5.00
• from 1.30 to 4pm, Paulig’s Coffee Ambassador Inkku will be at the 1st floor café serving coffee samples to honour the 90-year-old Juhla Mokka
