Before the ages of Men, Elves, Valar and even Eru Iluvatar themself, there was a young man fascinated with the study of Philogy and a love of Languages.Tolkien's worlds and mythos came into being to give a place in which his languages could live. The first of which being Quenya (Tolkien's high Elvish), which was heavily inspired by Tolkiens fascnation with Finnic lanugages and mythology, Finnish speakers often experience a sense of uncannyness when hearing Quenya spoken aloud.

This collaborative learning workshop looks at Tolkien's lanuages and explores the context in which Tolkien created Quenya as well as its place within the mythos of Middle Earth.

The workshops are group lead but hosted by Steve Maher. There is no expert or fluent speaker of the language present, we learn together using resources and guidance provided by the host.

During these short workshops we will learn the basics of grammar and vocabulary of Quenya. We will also learn how to structure a sentence as well as how to recite it as spoken language. Finally, we will work together to transcribe these sentences in Tolkien's very own Elvish Alphabet, Tengwar(in its Quenya form).
