The Joys of Linguistic Diversity and Collaboration between Writer and Artist with renowned poet Christine de Luca

This is an opportunity to hear the Shetland dialect, to learn about keeping a rare language alive, and experience how diverse forms of art– poetry, music, and paintings – make up more than the sum of their parts! Christine also draws inspiration from similar linguistic cultures, and you will hear a snippet or two from our own Kalevala in Shetlandic!

Our guest, an accomplished poet, Christine De Luca lives in Edinburgh and writes in English and Shetlandic, her ever-threatened mother tongue. Her work is wide-ranging and her enthusiasm for words and language never dims. Christine de Luca loves to collaborate with artists and musicians, and some of Christine’s poems have been set to music and recorded. We will hear some Shetlandic music in the event.

The event is organised by Keskustakirjasto Oodi together with the Finnish-British Society ry and Federation of Finnish-British Societies ry.
