Workshops

Helsinki Central Library Oodi offers different kinds of workshops for daycare and school groups. The subject range of the workshops includes graphic design, programming, visual arts, and AR combined with literature themes. Workshops support the contents of curriculum and well suited as part of phenomenon-based learning.

We offer Illustrate the Story -workshop in English. The workshop is for grades 1 to 4. During the workshop, a short story is listened to, and after listening student will create an illustration using drawing tablets in pairs or small groups.

Other workshops are available either in Finnish or Swedish.

Tours

In addition to workshops, we offer guided tours on Wednesdays. During the tour all Oodi’s floors will be visited. Registration for autumn’s guided tours begin on 19th August 2024 at 9 am.

Groups are also welcome to tour Oodi by themselves. So that everyone’s visit goes smoothly and safely, we hope that all the visitors follow the basic rules of library conduct. Oodi is a playful place but not a boisterous playground. Students are always the responsibility of their teacher, and the teachers should never leave their students unsupervised. We are always more than glad to help customers with library matters, but we are not responsible of babysitting the children. You can eat and play at the Children’s Area and everybody needs to clean after themselves. Good place for eating snacks is for example on the wooden stairs on the 3rd floor. In the library one moves and speaks calmly, so that everyone has peace to concentrate, for example, on reading or conversing. Read books can be placed in the carts found at the ends of the shelves, from which the staff will put them away in their own places. Groups do not need to register in advance.

You can also explore Oodi by playing. We have created games for the Seppo.io service that showcase Oodi’s facilities and services as well as public art. To play, you need a smartphone or tablet with an internet connection.
