Finnish-African Literature & Arts Exhibition

21.7.2025

Traverse the world of Africa with this collection of literature curated by the Finnish-African Society and the Oodi Library in this partnership to promote African literary arts since 2021. Visit Oodi on the 3rd floor with your Helmet Library card and loan a book or more. The books are curated for children, young adults, and families, and are available in various languages. The books are primarily written by Black, African, African-American, Afro-Finnish, and BIPOC authors.

This year’s exhibition features curated artwork illustrated by Sunday Mpanduji and a collaboration with Literary Cleveland, Ohio, featuring a special picture book by poet Quartez Harris and artwork by award-winning artist Gordon C. James, titled “Go Tell It: How James Baldwin Became a Writer,” which explores Baldwin’s childhood in Harlem.
